This year, AITIS attended the Health Valley Event 2026 in Nijmegen, one of the leading innovation events in the Netherlands focused on the future of healthcare. The event brought together professionals from across healthcare, technology, research, government and the social domain to explore new ideas and collaborations that can help shape tomorrow’s healthcare system.

Throughout the day, the focus was on innovation, collaboration and the transformation of healthcare, with many sessions highlighting how technology and new ways of working can help address major challenges such as rising care demands and the growing importance of prevention.

Imagining Healthcare in 2040

One of the sessions we attended was the

interactive workshop “Back to the Future: Building the future together.” In this session, participants were invited to imagine what healthcare might look like in the year 2040. The future scenario described a healthcare system where strong community support plays a central role and where healthcare providers closely collaborate with local organizations and social partners. Technology is expected to be a key enabler, with digital platforms supporting secure communication and data analysis helping to improve preventive care.

Innovation in Action

The event also featured the National Healthcare Innovation Prize, where on the finalists presented their innovations to an expert jury, showcasing solutions addressing key healthcare challenges.

Among the innovations was Ditto Care, an AI solution that helps patients better understand and remember medical consultations. Patients can record their conversation with a healthcare professional on their own phone, after which AI quickly translates the consult into clear, understandable language that can also be shared with family members. Other innovations included Phlecs, which uses blue-light therapy to help treat eczema, and Ambyon ONE, a logistics robot that assists healthcare professionals with tasks such as retrieving medication and transporting lab samples, helping reduce workload and creating more time for patient care.

The pitches provided valuable insights into emerging technologies that can support healthcare professionals and patients, while improving overall efficiency in healthcare.

Looking Ahead

For AITIS, attending the Health Valley Event was a great opportunity to connect with professionals across the healthcare and innovation landscape and to stay closely aligned with the latest developments in digital health and healthcare transformation.

Events like these highlight how collaboration between technology and healthcare can help shape a future where innovation supports better care and improved outcomes for patients and communities.
