The Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Backend Developer with the experience and vision to take on technical architecture responsibilities. This hybrid role is critical to our growth and will lead the development and strategy of our backend infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, building, and deploying our scalable, data-heavy software systems, with a specialism in AWS and creating a robust backend infrastructure to support our smart devices and mobile applications. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can architect large-scale systems, guide the team, and write high-quality Python code.
Key Responsibilities

Architectural Design and Development: Define and implement a robust and scalable backend architecture using Python and microservices. You will make key design decisions to support our mobile and web applications, ensuring our infrastructure can handle high-volume, real-time data streams from IoT/smart devices.

AWS Specialism: Lead the strategy and implementation of our cloud infrastructure on AWS. You will be optimizing for performance, cost, and security, particularly for data ingestion and processing workloads.

Backend and API Development: Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Python code. Develop and manage well-documented, versioned, and scalable RESTful APIs for our frontend applications and for direct communication with our smart devices where necessary.

Infrastructure and DevOps: Manage our containerized environment using Docker. Automate workflows and implement and improve CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth and reliable deployment of our services.

Technical Leadership: Act as the senior technical authority on the backend and infrastructure. Mentor other engineers, conduct code reviews, and establish best practices for coding, testing, and deployment.

Collaboration: Work closely with the CEO and frontend developers to translate business and product requirements into a clear and actionable technical roadmap.
Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.

5+ years of significant experience in backend development, with proven experience in a role with architectural responsibilities.

Deep expertise in Python and experience with web frameworks such as FastAPI or Django.

Extensive, hands-on experience with AWS, including designing and managing production environments. An AWS certification is a strong plus.

Experience architecting systems to handle data from IoT devices (e.g., via MQTT, WebSockets, or other protocols).

Strong experience with containerization (Docker) and microservices architecture.

Proficiency with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and an understanding of database design for scalability.

Solid understanding of DevOps principles and experience with CI/CD tools.
Desired Skills

Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).

Familiarity with the AI/ML lifecycle, including model deployment and MLOps.

Knowledge of serverless computing, and event-driven architectures.
